Yeah, lame headline. But impressive season for the Pirates of PUL (time to file that name, Stewy) as they held off Low Ink to take the Winter League championship. Congratulations all. Looks like Forrest Gump even stopped by on his cross-Canada run to contribute to the win. Or is that an actual pirate? Big thanks to Jeremy Moore and Creemore Springs for furnishing many happy eight and 12-packs for various winners. Kudos to Ginger Ninja's for rocking the Carbon Flip (did Ocean's really go 0-fer the season?). And thanks to John Desbiens for furnishing the glow-gear for the late slot glo-game - most excellent.

Now it's onto Spring Speedpoint. Captains should be in touch this week and rosters are posted below. Still putting the schedule together, but the first session this coming Thursday March 10th reads as this:

6:30 - 7:50 Jamie vs. Jason

7:50 - 9:10 Ben vs. John

9:10 - 10:30 Ali vs. Andrea

Remember, indoor newbies, only turf shoes or running shoes inside - NO OUTDOOR CLEATS. Let's get it on...

Still needing a couple of guys, but here are the teams for Spring Indoor Speedpoint. Big thanks to Jeff Bowman for putting them together. You and your captains have to come up with a proper gang name for your team in the meantime. We may add a couple of rules to speedpoint to keep the games focused on passing and keeping everyone involved, but for now, you should know that it's change on the fly (tap in), if you score you simply put the disc down and immediately go on defence, and - it's important to say - NO FIELD HOGGING. This is about quick changes and cycling. We have bigger rosters, so keep changes quick and go hard. Should be fun. Again, forget the score keeping, though Carbon Flip still counts. Carbon Flip wins the league, in fact. See you on the turf...

So Spring League Speedpoint is looking like it will stay at six teams. We're still needing a handful of men to fill out the rosters. Email Cam if you're in (contact info at bottom of page). Jeff Bowman is piecing together the rosters at the moment and we'll have something posted for Finals Night on March 3rd (and on the site). The first game of the season will be March 10th. Please plan on bringing your cheques for $95 made out to Peterborough Ultimate League.

A reminder to all players that given the mix of newer players and veteran players, this league is meant to be fun, it should focus on helping newer players improve their game both skills-wise and strategically. Plus we're really not bothering with scores. Let's say best Carbon Flip rate wins the league. Finally, the idea of speedpoint is quick changes on the fly so there should be a continual cycling into and out of the game so people maximize their conditioning.
